L.A. Mudpeople
The L.A. MUDPEOPLE are a unique tribe of people who explore the contemporary world with different eyes & heart. They have a simplified frame of reference without placing value or judgment on what they are, see, or find. The L.A. MUDPEOPLE live within the spirit of exploration & discovery.
The L.A. MUDPEOPLE “mud-up” and walkabout (to use an Australian Aboriginal term). They consider what they do non-performance and improvisation. Apparent rituals may occur in the process of mudding-up and becoming MUDPEOPLE, and in walking-about, hanging out... being…being an L.A. MUDPERSON. Each step, and space between the step into another step, is as ripe and rich as anything else to experience. LAMP have avoided anthropo-logical research and correctness, but linkages to the New Guinea Mud People and other so-called primitive cultures are inescapable.
The L.A. MUDPEOPLE create their own simple clothing and found ornamentation, & when mudded-up they don full-head masks made of
cloth, paper, mud and binder, etc. These masks limit vision and hearing, making them more vulnerable. This allows introspection, and admits the necessity and opportunity for greater focus of consciousness and centering.
The MUDPEOPLE are primal and instinctual, close to the source of innocence.
And they are curious, but not stupid.
They are non-verbal, slow-moving , d e l i b e r a t e ... and often silent, discovering wonderful moments in the places most people by-pass, overlook or step thru. There is a connection between the so-called homeless, living on the "edge" of society, and the The L.A. MUDPEOPLE; however, the The L.A. MUDPEOPLE are happy and in no need of hope.
The L.A. MUDPEOPLE are liberated without the concept of time, hurry and stress. They live in a vital, easy state of wonder, process and explor-ation in contrast to a frenetic world confined by definitions where everything has a cost & a label & a particular way of use or rule.
“We don’t have to do anything. We just are,”... a challenge to conventional thought without being aggressive or confrontational. Yes.
Natives to the LA River, the Mudpeople perform a short discovered ritual cleansing.https://l.facebook.com/l/VAQGGADdzAQH23GFI2hJctQgiolmnzsbu0JWt3hjXtESX7Q/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DGznqB0N5CZ4
